Quickly Fix Internet Explorer Errors

Do you get random errors?  Do you see “Internet Explorer has stopped working”?  Are you receiving script errors?  Did you mess it up?

You can quickly fix Internet Explorer.

This will work for IE8 and IE9.  I suggest you upgrade Internet Explorer if you are running anything earlier than IE8.

Upgrade Internet Explorer Now

First, you do not want to lose any of your Favorites.  Let’s back up your favorite links.  Open Internet Explorer.  Click on File from the Menu Bar.  If you do not see the Menu Bar or the File option, press alt + f to show the menu.

  1. On the menu, select Import and Export.
  2. Click on Export to a file.
  3. Select Favorites (and Feeds if subscribe to feeds).
  4. Click Next.
  5. Click on the top folder, Favorites.
  6. Click Next.
  7. Browse to where you want to save this file.  By default it is labeled “bookmark.htm”, and you can change the name and location.  I leave it as titled, and it saves to my Documents, or My Documents, folder.
  8. Click Export.
  9. Click Finish.

Complete this backup for each user account on the computer.

Open Internet Explorer. Click on Tools from the Menu Bar. If you do not see the Menu Bar or the Tools option, press alt + t to show the menu.

  1. On the menu, select Internet Options.
  2. Click on the Advanced tab.
  3. Under the heading “Reset Internet Explorer settings”, click the Reset button.
  4. Click all options to reset, including passwords and personal settings.
  5. Close IE windows, and reopen.

Use the Fix-It Tool from Microsoft.  This tool does NOT work on IE7 or earlier.  Read the full article here.

To import your favorite links.

  4. Click Next.
  5. Click on the top folder, Favorites.
  6. Click Next.
  7. Browse to where you saved your file.

  9. Click Finish.

Should have an error that is not resolved in IE through this method or the support file from Microsoft does not provide any assistance, post your error message or problem here.  I will be happy to help find a resolution.
